The Chronicles of the Moment [3/3]
At Samaya, we're big believers in the power of storytelling. It inspires our choices of outings, climbs, bivouacs and trips, and indirectly changes our lives. As the year draws to a close and the cold sets in and the snow glistens, a whole new relationship with the mountains is taking shape. We'd like to share this new vision of the mountains with you through a series of chronicles. Let us guide you to reclaim the present moment by looking upwards, to that place we love so much, to that unique place where the ground stops to meet the starry sky.
CHAPTER 3: MARVELING & STARTING AGAIN
Time doesn't pass: we only pass through it. All too often our way of understanding it is not correct.
Like a fluid that flows inexorably and that we would like to be able to hold back, it escapes us. This incessant reminder of the clock is dizzying. It constantly obliterates our exchange with the current moment. In camp, time remains the same, but our relationship to it is very different. When the hustle and bustle of life and the hubbub of social networks fall silent, a transformation takes place. The return to an ancestral practice, indexed on the history of mankind, puts our relationship to progress into perspective. The city imposes time on us when nature seems to give us time.
The city imposes time on us when nature seems to give us time. The mind is serene, tensions are eased and perception is refined. Sleeping outside means to enjoy the most beautiful spectacle that nature has to offer us. This relationship with the beauty of the world is a reconciliation. That of man with an environment from which he has been disassociated for too long. Getting closer to the stars is a way of putting things into perspective. A distance to the world that paradoxically connects and allows us to find a form of unity. Just as the high mountains put us back in our rightful place as humans, the sky and its unfathomable immensity also remind us of the extent of what remains to be discovered.
Allowing yourself to contemplate a starry sky also means returning to childhood. The Samaya tents are "grown-up toys" that allow us to connect with the present through the joyful emotions of the past.
This quest for summits is ultimately a quest for meaning on the road to sobriety.
Setting up a tent means building an ephemeral hut that holds the promise of future adventures. The bivouac is also the birthplace of future projects. Inspired by the surrounding peaks, galvanized by the ambient air, the décor is nothing but inspiration. Each ascent leads to a new ascent, which in turn leads to a new vertical horizon. This quest for summits is ultimately a quest for meaning on the path to sobriety. As with a mountaineer's equipment, it's when there's nothing left to add or subtract that the value of things is measured.
When you wake up, the first rays warm your aching body. They are the nectar from heaven that reminds us that the sun cannot be bought. That when you have everything, deliberately depriving yourself of the superfluous, keeping only a roof over your head, enough to eat and a little warmth, gives relief to life. As we watch the sun rise, we feel rich in what we have. At this moment, no currency could compete with such a moment. This "state of being" takes precedence not only over our possessions, but also over action. Sated by the previous day's effort, there's nothing left to do. These moments of eternity, gleaned from the heart of timeless places whose faces have remained the same since the dawn of time, are precious. They bring us back to our roots and give us a fresh perspective on the world.
These experiences give rise to inspiring gratitude and a different definition of paradise on earth. Wonder is a powerful gateway to (re)connecting with present happiness. Samaya products are designed as keys to these timeless experiences. What if this was the right time for you to take the time to live and feel the moment?
Epilogue
The Pyrenean motto "climb, feel, write" perfectly illustrates that there is no adventure without a story. So, as the festive season approaches, how can we not share with you the little glimpses of light we've gleaned from our summits? At Samaya, we believe that imagining, practicing and sharing are the three sides of the same mountain, and that's why we devote all our energy to dreaming, acting and sharing. Now it's up to you to dream, to take the plunge, to soar and to marvel, and no doubt you'll want to do it all over again...
